InFlowing

This piece is a personal favorite. In 2003 I was invited as a feature artist (by Darrell Hubbell - Designer Goldsmith) to display and auction a piece for a charity banquet in Prince George. I was particularly nervous about this piece. Having just moved to the area, this would be the first vision of my work that locals would see. I, of course, wanted to impress. It took me a long time and a few different designs to conjure up a piece I was happy with. By the time I had designed it I didn’t leave myself a lot of excess time to build it. There were a lot of long days and nights. It was tedious, but as always, a very satisfying experience. I did manage to complete… in the nick of time… a piece that I can truthfully say “knocked a few socks off.” I received awe inspired compliments for my creation.

Inflowing, named so for the hand carved “flowing” design on the inside of the box, is an uncanny demonstration of a totally uninhibited design. The asymmetrical shape alone demands attention. The woods were absolutely gorgeous... the “crotch” figure in the curly maple is stunning. There’s something to be said about high contrast… the use of the light (curly/crotch maple), dark (Ceylon ebony), and the subtle hint of sterling silver accents create a magnificent effect. I used a natural hand rubbed and buffed oil finish for this piece with the highest quality solid brass hinges- which have a very nice "action", and a perfect 110 degree stop. It is fitted wtih four fully adjustable chrome coated feet on the bottom for assured stability on any surface. InFlowing is authentically marked for originality with my hand carved and inlayed Ebony and Ivory Woodworks logo.

It was auctioned to a very happy owner and resides in Prince George, B.C.(2003)
